To provide practical tools for self-care, the group will share tips on maintaining mental and emotional well-being. Participants will be guided through meditation techniques to promote relaxation and reduce stress. Crystal singing bowl and sound baths will offer a unique sensory experience, contributing to a sense of tranquility.

Drumming, known for its therapeutic benefits, will be incorporated into the sessions as a means of self-expression and stress relief. The combination of these practices is aimed at promoting a holistic approach to well-being for both individuals and families.

Digital Lifelines Scotland Community of Learning Session

We are excited to share that our very own Kris, our dedicated Communication Coordinator, had the honour of attending the Digital Lifelines Scotland Community of Learning session in Edinburgh. This session is part of a vital initiative, and we are proud to be part of it!

Digital Lifelines Scotland, a program that has been making significant strides in our community, focuses on supporting small, local organisations like ours in extending digital inclusion activities to individuals at risk of drug overdose and their support networks. We understand the critical role digital inclusion plays in reaching out to those who need support and care.

The program offers grants, which have helped organisations like us make a meaningful difference in the lives of people at risk and those who care about them.

The Purpose:

  1. To support individuals at risk of drug overdose in becoming digitally included through the efforts of local community organisations.
  2. To expand or enhance the ongoing digital inclusion efforts that organisations are already engaged in.

Kris’s participation in the Digital Lifelines Scotland Community of Learning session is a testament to our commitment to digital inclusion and the well-being of those we serve. We believe that digital literacy and inclusion are essential for reaching out to individuals who may be at risk and for providing them with the support they need.

Vote For Us! Wellbeing for All Participatory Budgeting Fund

Vote For Us!

Here at East Ayrshire Recovery Hub we’re truly humbled to have been put forward to the public vote for the Wellbeing for All Participatory Budgeting Fund administered by East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership. The fund supports groups and organisations to deliver local well-being projects that matter most to communities in East Ayrshire.

The Hub has not one but three projects through to the final vote along with our partners at EACHa as well as Harbour (Ayrshire) who facilitate groups in the hub.

You can vote for 5 projects here – https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/WfAVoting2023/

Details of our own projects along with those from our partner organisations can be found below –

East Ayrshire Recovery Hub – Survivors

Amount requested: £1,000

East Ayrshire Recovery Hub ‘Survivors’ is a new innovative project, supporting individuals with drug and alcohol issues. Providing hope, connection, and identity by linking individuals with recovery support training and development within the local community providing clear pathways to progress, empowering individuals to lead a healthy and meaningful life.

The funding would be used to cover the expenses of establishing a new project to support women, who are suffering the devastating effects of alcohol and drug addiction along with interrelated issues it so often entails. This group would have the ability to be up scaled to meet the growing demand which we have forecast in consultations to be significant.

New Heights

Amount requested: £5,000

Inspiring recovery through health fitness and wellbeing. At new heights we believe everyone can find the confidence and support needed to aid their recovery. We work with individuals and groups to broaden their knowledge and participate in outdoor activities, exercise and experience nature to assist them with their future hopes and aspirations.

We believe in the importance of physical activity to benefit mental well-being reduce social isolation and improve participation and engagement in recovery. We aim to get people experiencing outdoor activity to broaden their horizons and reduce the stigma people live with due to substance use and limited opportunities. Funding to provide indoor climbing, cover travel expenses and training for mountain leadership.

Recovery Rocks Music Group

Amount requested: £2,500

We are a group that runs twice a week in the East Ayrshire Recovery Hub for those tackling addiction and substance abuse. The group provides support but also a way for people to enjoy their recovery by participating in music and socialising with others. Those who come to the group always leave feeling uplifted and its very rewarding to see people progress and build their confidence back that addiction took from them.

In the past year the group has played at several events as making recovery visible is really important to us as well as being a part of the community. This group has been going from strength to strength and any funding we get would help massively with music equipment and other opportunities.

East Ayrshire Churches Homelessness Action – Friendly Fresh Start

Amount requested: £4,950

Our aim is to alleviate poverty and associated stigma and by practical means to prevent or reduce the risk of homelessness We do this by our thrice weekly one-stop drop in, and our friendly Fresh Start project. All of our work aims to promote wellbeing, address mental and physical health and provide the basic means to prevent homelessness. Each Person Matters.

Our project provides a pack of essential household goods to an individual or family moving from temporary furnished accommodation to a tenancy. Packs can include cutlery, crockery, pots and pans, cleaning pack, hygiene pack or food parcel, towels, bedding. Many of those we support have no savings or means to obtain the items, and all are living in poverty.

Harbour Ayrshire – East Ayrshire Family Support Group

Amount requested: £5,000

Harbour Ayrshire operate across Ayrshire helping the most vulnerable in our communities who are affected by drug and alcohol addiction. Within East Ayrshire we operate a Men’s group, Ladies group and Family group from the East Ayrshire Recovery Hub.

Our project aims to support the families of those most affected by drug and alcohol addiction, providing vital support to partners, children and extended family members who in most cases have their lives significantly impacted and turned upside down by their loved one’s issues. The support offered helps the family members themselves to improve their lives, re-establish relationships with loved one’s where lost and also help them better understand loved one’s needs. We have trialled the family support service over the past few months and this funding would help secure and continue this lifeline over the course of the next year, as it is the only service of it’s kind in Ayrshire.

Drug Related Deaths 2022

Dear Community Members,

In light of the recently released annual drug death figures, we feel it is imperative to address this pressing issue and shed light on the work being done to support individuals struggling with substance use. At East Ayrshire Recovery Hub, our mission has always been centred around reducing deaths and minimising the harms caused by substance use.

Throughout this year, we have had the privilege of working closely with over 170 individuals within the East Ayrshire Recovery Network. We are proud to report that currently, there are 68 individuals who remain actively engaged with our services. Our primary focus has been on providing comprehensive support to meet their basic needs while facilitating access to recovery support systems.

Our approach encompasses a holistic perspective, acknowledging that a successful recovery journey involves not only addressing immediate needs but also encouraging engagement with medical professionals and psychosocial supports. Through our various groups and services, individuals have been able to access vital resources that aid in their recovery process.

We firmly believe in empowering individuals on their journey towards healing by fostering a supportive environment where they can thrive. By offering guidance, advocacy, and personalised care, we aim to equip those facing substance use challenges with the tools necessary for long-term recovery.

At East Ayrshire Recovery Hub, our commitment to reducing deaths caused by substance use remains unwavering. We understand that this issue requires a collective effort from all sectors of society – policymakers, healthcare professionals, community organisations, and individuals themselves. Together, we can make a significant difference in combating substance misuse and promoting healthier lives for all.

If you or someone you know is in need of support or would like more information about our services, please do not hesitate to reach out. Remember, help is just a phone call away.

Sincerely,

Steph McCutcheon
